Christ-like character

What is it? I'm on the search for that. I'll be going to the bookstore today to get a book/bible study, recommended to me-The Pursuit of Holiness by Jerry Bridges.

Last week our Pastor started going thru Ps 119 on Wednesday night. ( I missed last week because of work :( )
Last night he spoke about vs. 9-16.

9Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.
10With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.
11Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
12Blessed art thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes.
13With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth.
14I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches.
15I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.
16I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.
The only way I'll know what Christ-like character is, is to follow these scriptures. Our pastor put it this way.
We are to
  • focus the heart--taking heed to the Word, seeking it with our whole heart
  • feed the heart--hide it in our hearts, be teachable,
  • fix the heart--rejoice and meditate on the Word, delight in the Word, don't forget it.

I'm so thankful for the things that God shows us. He doesnt' convict us of something then leave us to try to figure it out on our own. He guides us thru the process.

The Practice of Holiness is excellent. I also recommend The Pursuit of Godliness by the same author.
