Christmas memories-part 2

My mom and dad were both creative people. My mom was an excellent seamstress and could create most anything out of fabric or anything else for that matter. She had a sewing business and did very well with it.
My dad was an wonderful carpenter. He could draw a pattern for a cabinet and build it. He was an uneducated man-only a 2nd grade education-had to help out on the family dairy farm back in the mountains of Madison County, NC.
So here is a memory of one of my favorite Christmases.
I was maybe 4 or 5. My mom had her little sewing room, dad had his workshop in a building.
I use to love to watch both of them at work.
This Christmas tho, they wouldtn' let me or my sister (who is 4 yrs older than I) in to see what they were doing. So we knew we were getting somethign special under the tree.

Christmas day arrived and we were so excited. There under the tree were 2 doll beds with dolls in them for my sister and I.

My doll bed was blue, had the slats on the side-just like a real one. On the head of the bed, dad had decoupaged a little picture of a lamb. My sisters had a duck-I think.
The doll-she looked like me-blonde yarn pigtails, green embroidered eyes and little embroidered mouth and nose. She looked kinda like a raggedy ann but so much prettier.
She had black "shoes" on.
She came with a little dress and pinafore, a flannel nightgown and pair of pajamas. We had sheets, a pillow, everything she needed.
I was so excited!! I loved playing with her, putting her to bed.
Mom and dad had worked many long hours on those.
I had her for many yrs.

But she (and other things) had to be left behind when my mom and dad separated. I guess, I thought if I left them, I would be able to return some day for them.
Not a memory I want to recall or to share.

Oh, Patty!
What a sweet, loving story. Your parents obviously loved you (and your sister) very much to make you such wonderful gifts that have left you with such memories. Just think, they worked, lovingly, together -- at least for a time -- to make their girls happy!

I'm sorry to hear that they had to be left behind (I, too, lost a few things when my parents separated and divorced -- including them.)
We are left with memories of these special things, though yours -- I have to say, are much more special than mine!

Many Blessings and Merry Christmas,
Julie

Oh Patty, I have to tell you that my heart ached when I read the end of this post. My dad made a 4 post bed, a dresser with mirror, and a chest of drawers for my aunt (his little sister) when he was in school. I am delighted to have ownership of them now but over the years the bed was broken. I love the set that I have even though it wasn't made for me. I can imagine what yours meant and still means to you. I just said a prayer for a special gift from our Father in Heaven.

Rich Blessings to you!

Patty,
You know God has something special in that memory of your Christmas so long ago. The memory of your parent's love for you. Even when your parents separated God never left you. God is so wonderful and He will always be your comfort in all things good and bad.
Thanks for sharing a wonderful story. I live in NC too!
God bless you and Merry Christmas! Your Sister In Christ,
Bren
