Absolutely gorgeous day!!!

Our daughter and sil came for the weekend and we spent the day at the Biltmore House. It was a gorgeous day!! We started the tour about 9, finished in the house about 11 or so, then went to Texas Roadhouse for lunch. Yum!! I love their sweet taters, w/butter and cinnamon. I love it when they are baked til the part right under the peeling is almost carmelized. mmm!! I could eat one right now.

After lunch we went back to the "House" and toured the grounds, the gardens, the farm and the gift shop at the winery. Dh and I decided to upgrade to a season pass.
I'm hoping to get over there more often, even if it's just to go over there and find a nice spot for a picnic. The grounds are beautiful

At the farm, we watched the master blacksmith make a leaf key chain. It is amazing how a person can take a piece of ole black iron and turn it into something like that. He would stick it in the fire, then when it got to the temp he needed it to be (and he could tell the temp by what color it was!) , he would then take it out, put it on the anvil and pound it til it was in the desired shaped. Then he would plunge it into water to cool it down. Reminds me of how God has to do me sometimes. When I show this stubborn will of mine, He has to put me thru the fire til I'm soft enough for Him to mold me, yes, sometimes it hurts from the pounding, until I'm the shape I need to be. Then He soothes me with His sweet Holy Spirit.

Personally I don't think I could ever live in a house like the Biltmore House. It's too big, the furnishing are too big and ornate--it's just not my style. All that gold gilding, velvet wallpaper, felt stuffy to me. Now down in the servants quarters-those little bedrooms, that is more me. Just simple iron beds, with a handmade quilt, embroidered pillow. That's more my style. Simple. I would like to hear some of the servants stories. I bet they had some fun times down there. It just seemed more relaxed.

Well, I finished my first week of work. It's not bad, I know it will continue to get better. I miss my mornings, tho. Sitting here at the computer, looking out my window, watching the birds, the house quiet. Sometimes we even have visitors. These two came by Friday morn. lol!! I wish I'd had more time to spend with them, but I had to get on to work. Dh took this picture after I left.
So, have you ever been to the Biltmore House?

Hi Patty. No I have never had the chance to go to the Biltmore house, but would love to! It is always amazing to see some artisan work with their hands. I agree with you, smaller quarters would make me happy as well. Wonder if any servant ever thought of writing a book about their experiences? It would be interesting. blessings,Kathleen

How amazing really. It was built around the time of a town here called Beechworth. Thanks for posting about it. It look like 16 movies have been set there. After being to Beechworth fairly recently, and also remembering Melbourne, I remembered how much I missed being around those older buildings. Yours reminds me of something, I haven't figured it out yet.

Ooooh I love Biltmore at Christmas the best, Patty! Hubby has never been and I told him someday we would go, but now with the rockslide blocking the interstate, I guess we'll have to wait.
